Vasileios Hatzivassiloglou

I am an Associate Professor of Computer Science at the University of Texas at Dallas since September 2004. Before that, I spent six years as a research scientist at the Columbia University Department of Computer Science and Center for Computational Learning Systems. I received the five-year Diploma degree in Computer Science and Computer Engineering from the University of Patras in Greece in 1990, the M.Sc. degree in Computer Science from Columbia University in 1992, and the Ph.D. in Computer Science from Columbia University in 1998. My main research interests include statistical natural language processing, machine learning, automated acquisition of lexical semantic knowledge from large corpora, information extraction, summarization, question answering, intelligent information retrieval, digital libraries, text mining, bioinformatics, and medical informatics. I am presently active in both the Human Language Technology Research Institute at UTD and in efforts to establish formal bioinformatics programs within the Computer Science department and as a new interdisciplinary department.
