| Human Language Technology Research Institute
With great pleasure we announce the formation of the Human
Language Technology Research Institute at the University of
Texas at Dallas. We are especially excited and grateful that the HLTRI
idea has been embraced and supported by the University administrators
at all levels. UTD is surrounded by over 600 high tech companies and the
potential of HLT research here is great. Several additional faculty
positions in NLP and Speech, ample office and laboratories space in a
new Computer Science Building, seed funding, and other resources have
been granted by the UTD Administration.
The official opening
of the Institute will take place Thursday and Friday, March 7 and 8.
The program includes several technical talks by leading researchers,
industrial representatives describing their need for HLT, panel
discussions by representatives from several funding agencies, and much
more. A tentative agenda is included.
